Thank you to the City of Kitchener and Centre in the Square for the help in funding these recordings via their Create and Connect programme!
Thank you for your interest in the KW Flamenco Fest!
The KW Flamenco Fest is back for its fourth year and counting. This summer, we’re hosting a combination of virtual events and in-person, outdoor performances. Please check out the recordings we’ve prepared for this year’s Fest above, as well as the video collaboration we created for last year’s “Physically Distanced Fiesta.” Below, you’ll also find information on our in-person pop-up performances, our Tangos Concurso (dance challenge), and on our Flamenco Outdoors Instagram & Facebook campaign.
We look forward to reconnecting with you all from KW and beyond, be that in outdoors and in person, or virtually.
Happy dancing and music-making,
Claudia & Julian
Alongside nuevo flamenco sensation, Juneyt Yetkiner, Claudia & Julian will be running a series of pop-up performances throughout the Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) of Uptown Waterloo, Downtown Kitchener, and Preston (Cambridge). These will take place on different days between July 22nd to August 5th. In an effort to prevent a crowd from forming, some of these performances will be surprise in nature, so you will have to keep your eyes open for us as you’re about town, while others will require that you make a reservation at one of the restaurant patios.
Please call the restaurants to inquire about the exact time of the pop-up and to book a table
Did you catch one of our performances? Help us make the Fest better by taking a short survey!
This “concurso” is both a challenge and a friendly competition, created to celebrate all the work that flamenco dance enthusiasts have been putting into their craft while cooped up at home. It is also an opportunity to showcase each participant’s artistry. Entrants will be asked to prepare a dance that they can perform to a designated track and then to submit a video of themselves dancing alongside the recording. Awards will be announced during an online gala with our international guest judges on the afternoon of July 31st. For full details on the Concurso, go to the Tangos Concurso page.
Join us on Instagram and Facebook for Flamenco Outdoors, July 22nd to August 5th. Bring the great outdoors and your love of flamenco together by finding your favourite outdoor spot and taking a short video of you practicing flamenco in that space. Then post it on Instagram and/or Facebook and share it with us by using the hashtags #flamencooutdoors and #kwflamencofest. It needn’t be long or complicated, just some simple movements to the sound of nature or to your own flamenco beat. Less than 1-minute is A OK. You can even just take a picture doing your best flamenco pose.
Sport a flamenco outfit or be in your everyday wear; take a silhouette shot against the sunset at a park; or be one with the urban landscape by dancing in the city. Be imaginative and creative! And let’s popularize the #flamencoutdoors hashtag!
Other hashtags you might want to add: #flamencoafuera, #flamencooutside, and #littlekwflamencofest.
