Tuesdays, 6 – 7:15pm: Dance Fundamentals with Kim
“Dance Fundamentals for Flamenco Dancers” with Kim Green. Kim is a seasoned dance instructor with decades of experience in flamenco, Spanish classical, ballet, modern, Ukrainian folk dance, ballroom, and so much more! This class will be great in helping to attain a more polished look as a dancer. Weekly classes will include exercises that improve body alignment and spatial awareness, learning the names/numbers of dance positions of the arms and legs and how to move through them, lessons in class decorum and protocol, footwork drills and basic rhythm loops, and cleaning up fundamental Spanish dance steps, such as basic marking steps and footwork strokes.
If you’re still new to flamenco, or dance in general, or if you haven’t paid attention to the fundamentals of technique in some time, this class is not to be missed!
Required equipment/clothes: flamenco shoes (or suitable, temporary footwear if a beginner), long, flamenco-appropriate skirt.
For all levels, including absolute beginners.
Thursdays, 6pm – 7:15pm: Flamenco Dance Level 1
This class is for people who are still new to flamenco, e.g. those who have only taken classes for a short time, are still learning the basics, or have never done flamenco before. This term we will be working on fundamentals, technique, and verses 3 and 4 of Sevillanas, reviewing 1 and 2 as necessary.
Thursdays, 7:30 – 8:45pm: Flamenco Dance Level 2
This class is for dancers with experience. Students need to have a good handle on the basics, floreo, braceo, and all the footwork strokes, as well as be able to execute some patterns, e.g. redobles, and have a sense of how flamenco dance works with the music. This term will focus on Alegrias, and how it relates to the letras.
